Thirty-nine TEACH Ambassadors selected for 2010

by TEACH South Africa

As the final deadline for applications to join the TEACH South Africa Ambassador Programme drew near, the TEACH South Africa website recorded a whopping 1 826 user registrations, of which 595 users completed the application in full. The total number of people who registered an interest in TEACH South Africa in 2009 was three times more than the 2008 number.

Of the 215 graduates interviewed for the TEACH Ambassador Programme, only 39 were sent acceptance letters. These 39 then joined the TEACH South Africa Training Academy on January 3, 2010.

Of the 39 TEACH Ambassadors selected, 16 will be teaching Maths, 11 Physics and 12 English. TEACH Ambassador placements will be as follows: eight in the Western Cape; 23 in Gauteng; four at the Leap Maths and Science Schools and four at the Historic schools located in Limpopo and at Healdtown, Nelson Mandela’s old school, in the Eastern Cape. With the introduction of the subject competency test in this year’s recruitment and selection process, TEACH South Africa has no doubt it has selected high-calibre graduates who will impact positively on the schools they are placed in.
