The teacher as a leader and becoming change agents in the classroom

by TEACH South Africa

TEACH South Africa’s training programme is designed to equip TEACH Ambassadors with the necessary pedagogical knowledge to provide the highest possible level of education to learners, despite the challenges they may face in the classroom.

With this in mind, experts from the education sector facilitate these training sessions to provide the TEACH Ambassador with the skills, knowledge, values and tools to maximise their teaching effectiveness and improve learner performance.

Eileen Johnson from Infundo Consulting gave the 2012 intake of TEACH Ambassadors a profound and impactful message: “Emotional intelligence is a way to work with others for the growth of the organisation, and working together with the purpose of the organisation’s growth in mind”. The key areas in which TEACH Ambassadors will need to focus are as follows:

• Being passionate about making a difference in the lives of the learners
• Viewing the classroom as an organisation that works as a team
• Understanding the learners and helping them consider their futures
• Being aware of everyone in the team
• Understanding that a good leader is as good as his or her actions

Leaders are there to inspire, to be consistent, to be responsible and held accountable. TEACH South Africa understands that transformation does not happen overnight, but that with time and perseverance, the TEACH Ambassadors will make a difference in the lives of their learners, allow them to be rich in spirit and mold them into future leaders.
