TEACH South Africa welcomes new recruits

by TEACH South Africa

TEACH South Africa training for the 38 new TEACH Ambassadors kicked off on 4 December 2011 with a welcome speech by co-founder, Richard Masemola.

He explained to the young and dynamic graduates that “the road ahead is not a walk in the park and it is tough, but you can be assured that TEACH South Africa will provide the necessary support when you fill the posts in these under-resourced schools”.

These recruits are embarking on a journey to become change agents in the classroom, where they will teach English, Maths and Science for a period of two years.

Masemola added that posts this year were a challenge with the Department of Education currently over budget for TEACH South Africa’s intervention in schools. However, with the immense support from the private sector, TEACH South Africa has secured 32 posts for the TEACH Ambassadors to teach in four provinces.

The organisation is hopeful that by the end of the training programme, government will come on board once more. Without the department’s support, TEACH South Africa’s sustainability will have to rely solely on the private sector.
